Thank you for your interest in becoming a Conservation Guardian!
The main responsibility of a Conservation Guardian is to commit to monitoring and submitting a report for their assigned natural area for signs of human use and disturbance at least once per year.
The vast majority of INT properties do not have trails. You need to be capable and comfortable walking off-trail in natural spaces that often have unsteady footing and obstacles such as downfall. Guardians may choose to traverse properties on foot or, if applicable, by canoe/kayak. Secondarily, some Guardians also provide biological information such as wildlife sightings, rare plant observations, and invasive species reports.
Conservation Guardians use a mobile app to monitor properties and submit reports. You will receive further information about the mobile app after you register. You must be comfortable using mobile apps to become a Guardian, however, you do not have to have your own device. INT has iPads volunteers can borrow.
